Oracles of Eight is translated from a French fortune telling game called "Evening of Readings." This simple little game has each person roll three eight sided dice and compare the number rolled to a list of simple "prophecies." For instance dice one rolls a 1, dice two rolls a 3, and dice three rolls a 5, the number then is 135 which reads "unexpected visit."
While we seriously doubt that there is anything remotely authentic about fortune telling of any kind, this is a cool little addition to any fantasy RPG. Give that old wise woman something to consult when the players come to town. Prophesize triumph or doom with a few rolls of the dice! It?s a fantasy world after all; it just might work or maybe it's still a bunch of malarkey (doesn?t really matter so long as the players believe it now does it?). Try this one, "An unexpected visitor will bring complicated business. There will be betrayal by someone close to you." Prophetic eh? As the gamemaster, all you have to do is interpret the results of a few rolls and you have a prophecy that can be as true as you would like for your game.
Oracles of Eight includes a complete chart of "prophecies" and three jumbo 8 sided dice (one in purple, one in black, and one in blue).
